David dewinter

I was born in Surrey and received my formative musical training as a chorister at Westminster Cathedral, before studying Music at Durham University and Voice at the Royal Academy of Music.  I was a finalist in the 2019 Handel Singing Competition, winning the Selma D and Leon Fischbach Memorial Award.  His musical repertoire spans over 900 years, from the 11th Century to the present day.  Primarily known as an interpreter of music from the baroque and renaissance era, I am also a committed performer of contemporary music.

As a soloist I have performed in the UK, Europe and Asia in venues such as The Royal Festival Hall, Wigmore Hall, Palau de la Musica and Centre Georges Pompidou.  I have featured in broadcasts on BBC radio and television, and across Europe.  Recent highlights include Matthäus Passion (arias) with both Philharmonie Zuidnederland & Phion Orkest and Jos van Veldhoven, Coridon in Acis & Galatea at the Buxton & Iford Arts Festivals with The Early Opera Company, Messiah with London Handel Society, Norwich Baroque (Norwich Cathedral) &  in Southwell Minster, Purcell Odes & Handel’s The King Shall Rejoice with The English Concert and Kristian Bezuidenhout live on BBC Radio 3 at the Wigmore Hall, Bach Magnificat in Hereford Cathedral, Purcell & Blow Odes at The Holywell Room (Instruments of Time & Truth), and Stockhausen's Sternklang with Birmingham Contemporary Music Group at the Acht Brücken Festival in Cologne.

In recital, I have appeared at the Foundling Museum, Henry Wood Hall (with harpist Anne Denholm), The London Handel Festival and 180° Festival in Sofia.  His Schütz 350 recital project in 2022 has seen him perform at The London Festival of Baroque Music (St John’s Smith Square), Little Missenden Festival and Cambridge Early Music with The Brook Street Band, as well as the Beverley Chamber Music Festival and the Barnes Music Festival with Endelienta Baroque.  My recordings of Purcell Odes with The King's Consort were nominated for a Gramophone Award in both 2021 & 2022, and I released an album, Adorna, in early 2022 with Opus Anglicanum in collaboration with the jazz pianist Jason Rebello.
